Guide to Action

Here are 5 ways you can get involved in helping ease the tensions that arise when Tibet is brought up:

#1 - Visit the Tibetan Mongolian Buddhist Cultural Center right here in Bloomington.  I haven’t been yet myself, but I hear that all of the monks there are very nice and willing to answer any questions visitors ask them.  Below is their contact information – all this and more can be found on their website at www.tmbcc.net.

#2 – Consider taking a Tibetan studies class at IU.  The professor I have now is incredibly knowledgeable and informative, and we have an excellent Central Eurasian Studies department.  I feel like I’ve learned enough about Tibet in class to make a whole blog just from lecture notes!

#3 – Join a group like the International Tibet Support Network (link can be found under Blogroll).  They are non-governmental organizations like this one out there that work nonviolently to restore human rights in Tibet.

#4 - Donate to causes like the International Campaign for Tibet and The Tibet Fund.  All money goes toward aiding the situation in Tibet and improving the lives of those living in Tibet.

#5 – Do your own personal research.  Check out websites like www.tibet.org (all of these are under Blogroll) or just head to the public library and check out a book about Tibet.  It’s a truly fascinating place that I’ve really enjoyed learning about, and I hope you will too.
